Born and raised in Oklahoma, Matt has had his hands in creating art for his entire life. He has spent more than fifteen years now honing his personal style, experimenting with a variety techniques, media and subject matters. A self-taught artist, Matt has had over thirty studios throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Washington. His work is in private and corporate collections across the United States.
Until the early part of 2012, Matt was best known for his figurative oil paintings, but then took the leap into contemporary modern and abstract botanical influenced paintings. In late 2014, Matt moved back to Oklahoma from Taos, NM to create a fresh body of work that focused on the equine and other imagery of the southwest.
Matt continues to create abstract, floral, equine, and southwest paintings. Recently he has branched out to take these same inspirations that happen on canvas to create a line of designer clothing. SouthwestNomad.com
With a growing amount of interest from both galleries and collectors from coast to coast, Matt needed a solution to be able to say “YES” to more of these opportunities. A big rig or truck to haul the work. Big enough to also work along the way. The answer? A 1998 Bluebird school bus. Converted and off grid ready, Matt travels to prospective clients, collectors, galleries, and shows. Bringing the studio/gallery to your home or business to provide a private art opening for your friends and family. Follow Matt’s travels on social media and see finished works at MattJosef.com. Currently based in Prescott Arizona and represented by HUE Gallery in Edmond Oklahoma.
