Jun Blanco was born in the Philippines and moved to Orange County, California at the young age of five. He has been drawing and painting since he relocated to America and was initially inspired by his love of comic books. As a young man, Jun began to take his art more seriously and studied illustration at Cal State Long Beach. In his thirties, while working on stamped concrete and custom backsplashes Jun got the idea to blend the two in his personal body of art. After many years of trial and error and mixing various formulas, he created a unique process that he now uses to create his art today.

Jun’s artistic process is a marriage of opposites, where he merges the fluidity of acrylic paint with the textured tactility of cement to create his one-of-a-kind mixed media pieces that defy categorization. Whenever possible, Jun works on site at the shows so that collectors can see firsthand his creative process.

“As a mixed media artist, I explore the realms of surrealism through my unique fusion of cement and acrylic paint. My creative process involves either carving intricate designs into the cement or controlling the flow of paint to create dreamlike scenarios that transport viewers to a world where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur. My primary focus is on celebrating nature as well as the strength and mystique of certain groups of people that I find fascinating, often placing them at the center of my surreal landscapes, forests, and skies. By juxtaposing natural elements with abstract forms, I aim to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the mystical and symbolic worlds I create. Through my art, I seek to honor the power that resides within the earth and within ourselves, inspiring a deeper connection between humans and the natural world.”
