THE MOMENT OF BECOMING
I believe we are all capable of becoming something greater than what we are today.
But transformation rarely happens all at once. It begins in a moment — a moment of courage, struggle, awakening, surrender, resilience, or choice. These are the moments that change the direction of a life.
My sculptures explore those moments.
I am drawn to the tension between who we have been and who we have the potential to become. The human figure becomes a vehicle for exploring that tension: reaching, rising, falling, breaking free, and discovering strength that was not visible before. I create figures that exist somewhere between struggle and transcendence. Wings become more than wings. Movement becomes more than movement. The forces surrounding the figure can represent adversity, fear, limitation, or the weight of what we carry. And yet, within each work, there is movement toward something beyond those limitations.
Transformation is not simply becoming different. It is becoming more fully who we are capable of being.
That idea has become central to my work because I believe it speaks to something increasingly important in our world. We live in a time of enormous change, uncertainty, and pressure. People are continually being asked to adapt, rebuild, overcome, and redefine themselves.
My hope is that these sculptures do more than represent transformation.
I want them to create a moment for it
I want someone standing in front of one of my sculptures to recognize something of themselves in the figure—to remember a moment when they fell, or fought, or found courage, or began again. And perhaps, for a moment, to see not only who they have been, but who they might still become.
My work is ultimately about the moment when becoming something greater becomes possible.
