As an oil painter, I seek to capture the fleeting beauty embedded in the ordinary, transforming the mundane into moments of timeless wonder. My art is an invitation to pause, to linger in the quiet beauty of the everyday. I seek to freeze the fleeting - a perfect bloom before it fades, a shadow dancing across a surface, soon to vanish. I am drawn to the interplay of light and form, where a petal glows translucent or a reflection bends reality into something unexpected.
These moments, often overlooked in our hurried lives, become my subjects, often magnified beyond their natural scale to reveal their intricate textures and hidden stories. My still lifes—whether a collection of marbles, a pair of worn sneakers, or a glass of wine—are not just objects; they are vessels of time, carrying the weight of nostalgia.
Growing up with an artist mother, creativity was my inheritance, a calling I embraced as a child and have pursued ever since. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and my artistic journey was formalized through a Fine Art degree from McDaniel College. A grade school encounter with the work of Georgia O’Keeffe had a lasting impression on me. Like her, I am captivated by the quiet magnificence of the commonplace – O’Keeffe’s bold, expansive flowers and stark compositions still resonate with me.
Now based in Arizona, I draw inspiration from the interplay of light and form, often using my camera to frame the reference photographs that guide my brush. My work bridges the traditional and the contemporary, rooted in the realism of still life yet bold in its scale and perspective. Each piece is a celebration of the ordinary made extraordinary, a reminder that beauty thrives in the details we slow down to see. With every stroke, I invite viewers to pause and reconsider the world they might otherwise rush past, preserving in paint what time threatens to erase.
