George Hill Jones was born in 1956 in Dallas, Texas. He began his career as an artist at a very early age, creating graphite renderings and painting in watercolors but soon progressed to oils, a medium he has adopted for the last 40 plus years. His first art show was at 20 years of age.
He generally takes a simple subject and starts there. He likes to use contrasting colors which draw the eye and make the pieces more interesting and appealing. George’s artistic ability allows him to paint in several different genre’s all of which make use of color, oil paint in abundance to give depth, and texture to the work, and add a three-dimensional feel. The use of palette knives, give the paintings the look he is known for, creating unique pieces for each collector. The majority of his pieces are usually large scale works of 48″ X 60″ or larger. George also paints in dyptics and tryptics.
In his career, George has been the recipient of numerous awards at prestigious art festivals across the country including: the Featured Artist at Art in the Square in Southlake, TX; Best of Show at Evergreen, CO; Best of Painting Tulsa Mayfest, Tulsa, OK; and paintings sold at the C.M. Russell Museum Art Auction in Great Falls, MT.
George’s work has been enjoyed and collected by many including Vice President Dan Quayle and five of his then advisors, professional athletes, business owners and executives and their families. Some of his collectors include sports figures such as Dallas Cowboy, Demarcus Ware and wife, and several other Dallas Cowboys; TCU Head Football Coach, Gary Patterson and wife; Dallas Sportscaster, Dale Hansen; and Ohio State Coach and NCAA Hall of Fame member John Cooper and wife.
George is represented in select galleries across the country and in Mexico. His work was recently used on 10 billboards to promote the La Quinta Art Celebration in La Quinta, CA. He was also featured on “Good Morning Texas” in the Dallas, TX area demonstrating painting live.
