Cristina Sanchez is a Mexican-born sculptor based in Tucson, Arizona. For more than 20 years, she has developed her work as an artist, with an education spanning Mexico, Spain, and the United States, where she studied fine arts with a focus on ceramic sculpture and mixed media. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico, and in national and international juried shows.
Having lived in northern Mexico and the southwestern United States, Sanchez has formed a strong to the life of the desert environment and the cultural connections shared by these regions. The resilience of the desert, its color palette, and its textures influence her sculptural language and approach to materials.
Her work explores the human figure, cultural identity, and emotions, alongside a deep connection to nature, particularly animals.
Shaped by her Mexican roots and the influence of magical realism, Sanchez builds compositions from fragmented figures, negative space, and a palette drawn from the desert around her. Her sculptures evoke stories without fully defining them, inviting viewers to form an emotional connection with the figures and create their own narratives through their experiences, memories, and interpretations.
