Serenity was a percent for the arts commission for the state of Montana, initially installed in the lobby of the Natural Resources Building at Montana Tech in May 2011. The painting is in three panels, totaling 4' by 21', and exudes a peaceful atmosphere. Bern Sundell often received calls from professors saying they went to the lobby to sit with it for stress relief.

BIO

Bern Sundell, noted contemporary western artist, creates work that expresses the spirit of the west, often showing present time echoing the past. Radiant with light, his beautifully detailed paintings are found in corporate and private collections throughout the world.

Bern has a master’s degree in sculpture but is also an excellent printmaker, potter, and jeweler. However, his greatest focus is found in his paintings.

He completed a 21’ x 4’ painting, Serenity, as a percent-for-the arts project commissioned by the state of Montana. The painting, Serenity, is on view in the main lobby of the Natural Resources Building at Montana Tech.

His paintings appear in a limited edition fine art book as well as in other books, magazines, and television shows. The C.M. Russell Museum, Yellowstone Art Museum, Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, and others have shown his work.

Bern’s current work explores spatial relationships rendered with skillfully modulated color palettes. Often abstract in nature, they draw the viewer into unique visual experiences.

A native Montanan, he loves fly fishing almost as much as he loves painting. Bern and his wife own and operate RiverStone Gallery in Ennis, Montana.
